If you're a true sneakerhead, then you know that Nike's Air Jordan line is among the best of the best. These shoes have been literally changing the game since they first hit the market in 1985, and the Jordan 6 continues this incredible legacy.

Originally released back in 1991, these shoes have never looked cooler or more on-trend. From their ultra-cool high top to their unique and varied colorways, these are the sneakers sure to turn heads on and off the court.

You might know that you love them, but how much do you really the sisters love to dance in the Jordan 1 Low and Air Max 90 Air Jordan 6s? Today, we're sharing five facts to help you grow your ever-evolving knowledge of sneaker history.

1. They Have a Special Claim to Fame

Sure, the Air Jordan 1s were the OG sneakers that catapulted their namesake to a permanent spot in basketball history. However, you might be surprised to learn that Michael Jordan wasn't wearing those iconic kicks when he led the Chicago Bulls to a 108-to-101 win in the 1991 Nike Air Jordan 1 RETRO High Rookie of The Year 27cm!

It was the Bulls' very first NBA title, and it's no surprise that Jordan received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the series. The Bulls would go on to win the coveted championship five more times between 1991 and 1998, so it's safe to say there was some true magic in those sneakers.

2. They Have a Legendary Designer

Love the look of the Air Jordan 6 sneakers? Of course, you have legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield to thank.

Hatfield is behind many of the brand's most memorable designs, including the Air Jordans 3 through 15, as well as Air Jordan XX, XXIII, XXV, and the Air Max 1s. He also conceptualized the Nike Air Trainers and Infrared Air Max 90s. The first colorway he debuted for the Air Jordan 6s was the now-classic Infrared colorway.

This first colorway featured black nubuck uppers, along with one-of-a-kind infrared accents around the clear sole and visible Nike Air unit. It was a simple, yet enduring design that was unlike anything the brand had released to date.

Fans especially appreciated that the toe box on the Jordan 6s was a little more versatile. The toe box was rounder and not too bulky, making these shoes a cinch to style.

3. They Were Retroed in 2000 (and 2010)

Only nine years from their original release date, Nike officially retroed the original Infrared Air Jordan 6s. With this move, they introduced lots of cool new colorways. They also replaced the original "Nike Air" branding with sleek Jumpman logos to usher in a more modern era.

Thankfully, you can still find the original Infrared colorway today. The Air Jordan 6 Retro Infrared colorway was released in 2019 and continues to be a top seller for the brand.

The shoe's first full retro run didn't happen until 2010. Two of the top colorways released in that year were the Varsity Reds, including the Black/Varsity Red colorway, as well as the Infrared Pack.

While the Black/Varsity Red colorway was expected to be a top seller, it turned out to be too close to the original Infrared colorway, only with a slight variation. Fans wondered why Nike would switch the shades when it could have used the one that first pioneered the sneaker line.

4. The Styles Grew in 2002

In 2002, Nike decided to alter the Air Jordan 6s a little. This year, they released low-top models for the first time, along with colorways and sizes designed just for women.

The low-top look was a definite diversion from the shoe's original silhouette, which was proudly high-top in nature. This is because the shoes were originally created as a basketball shoe, where ankle support and stability is key. Today, you can find various low-top styles and colorways, as well as sizing for both women and children.

why not check out the Jordan Brands impressive Jordan 11 sneaker tee shirt style is one example. Released in January 2002, these men's shoes feature a leather upper, rubber sole, and the Jumpman logo on the back.

5. One Style Was a Player Exclusive

Another design released during the Air Jordan's 2010 retro run was the Air Jordan VI Retro “Motorsports” sneaker. When these shoes first debuted, they were offered as a Player Exclusive, or PE.

This meant that they were solely designated for professional athletes. In this case, the Motorsports shoes were made strictly for racers involved in Michael Jordan Motorsports (MJM). This was a motorcycle-racing team that Jordan started in 2004, following a collaboration with racing team manager Pete Mauhar.

MJM made its big debut at the 2004 AMA Pro Road Racing series in Daytona, Florida. Following a series of wins, Jordan was hoping to take MJM international in 2013. However, MJM folded just one year later following a series of financial setbacks, including the loss of its major sponsor, National Guard.

While avid collectors shelled out thousands to get their hands on a special pair of the Motorsports sneaker, only to find that they were released to a wider audience not long afterward. Since 2020, Jordan has collaborated with racer Denny Hamlin. Their 23XI Racing organization competes in the NASCAR Cup Series, so a new Air Jordan 6 PE release could one day be in the works!
