The Air Jordan 9 was released right after Michael Jordan announced his retirement from basketball in 1993. It was a shocking moment for everyone to hear Michael stepping away at such a young age. The Air Jordan was designed by Tinker Hatfield and Mark Smith. Initially, only four colorways were released: black and white, "Olive," "Powder Blue," and "Charcoal." On the sole of the shoe, there are words "Dedicates," "Intense," and "Sport," which were translated and carved in various languages. The only from of this pair of sneakers is that they are easier to tighten and loosen. The rest is similar to the previous models, meaning cushioning and other features. Since Michael decided to retire, the Air Jordan 9 were specially designed for other players, for example, Penny Hardaway, BJ Armstrong, Latrell Sprewell, and others.

Another interesting fact about the Air Jordan 9 is that they are a part of a statue of Michael Jordan gifted by the Chicago Bulls. That gave a creative idea to create bronze-colored Air Jordan 9 sneakers.

Since Jordan decided to retire, he took up Another, and Nike quickly created a special Another version of AJ 9 footwear in black and white colors. Later followed the retro editions that presented the original version in various colors.
