10 June 2024Stone Island and New Balance reunite to rework the 574 Legacy once again, delving deep into the legendary archives of the Italian brand.
Continuing their ongoing and harmonious partnership, Stone Island and New Balance reunite for the second instalment of their collaborative take on the 574 Legacy. For decades, Stone Island has demonstrated expertise in colour research and experimentation, crafting more than 60,000 dye recipes since it was founded in 1982.
Tapping into this rich archive of colours and material compositions, the collection sees a duo of distinctive colourways of the 574 Legacy, featuring shades of green, mustard yellow and grey inspired by archival items from 1988. The references garments in question are an AW ’88’89 mid-green silk-effect polyester microfiber outer piece, in addition to a deep grey Panno Jacquard inner shell edged with mustard yellow striping.
The duo continues to delve deep into the archives for the materials, too, with a particular focus on fabrics spanning collections from 1987 to 1989. In an unexpected multi-textural approach to the historic New Balance silhouette, nubuck is overlaid on a ripstop upper — inspired by an AW ‘88’89 archive shell created entirely in a layer of heat-sealed PVC — while the texture applied to the New Balance ‘N’ nods to the rubber elbow patch of a SS ’88 Raw Canvas blouson. The heritage references continue elsewhere, with a nylon tongue and a terry collar inspired by the AW ‘88’89 Nylon Ripstop short parka, as well as the now defunct, archival green edge badge detailed at the tongues.
The Stone Island x New Balance 574 Legacy Drop Two will launch via SneakersbeShops Launches on the 14th June.
